Troeroe...troeroe...the elephants are loose!
For the past two days we've been at an elephant camp. It is yet another ecotourism project in Laos, where elephants which were previously employed in the logging industry are now finding another place to live.
We treated ourselves to an overnight stay in a lodge, located in a beautiful landscape alongside the river Nam Khaen.
As you can see in the pictures we learned to ride an elephant without a saddle (with a little bit of help by the mahout giving the elephant instructions on where to go...). This morning we got up pretty early , trekked through the jungle to the elephants and then rode back top the river, where we washed them - pretty necessary and so much fun!
It was such a great experience, it was still very early and pretty cold, when we started off you could still see your own breath in the air. However, once in the river, even though it was pretty cold, you were warmed by the elephant - an unforgettable feeling.
